Nick and Angie: A Success Story
I just got such a wonderful email from a former client, I can’t help but showcase it here on my website! Read about their amazing progress for yourself:
I thought I would share a huge win with you, Ericka! In the time since we last spoke, our family has been able to keep up on our budget and tracking. At one point- we were faced with a huge needed repair on our paid off vehicle and ALMOST jumped at getting a new car with a lease. Almost. But we followed our gut and the plan and paid for the repair. It felt better than a new car for certain.
Additionally, Nick resigned from his job and begins working as an independent financial advisor with Edward Jones this upcoming Monday. As you might recall- he was very limited and unhappy in his job but felt shackled to the reliable salary. We always felt like it was too risky and our budget too close to take a commission based job, even if we knew just how talented he could be.
Well, the opportunity presented in September and it felt right, risky but like an answer to prayer. And, after a hard fought interview process he was hired. Then reality hit- this meant a pretty significant pay cut, and we knew that our pesky Lending Tree Loan ($1100/month if you recall- killer) would be a huge barrier to him staring this role and add unnecessary pressure to our family until this April when it was planned to be paid off. His new role is initially about a 30% pay cut so I was losing sleep trying to figure out how to allow the dream to become a reality. So, On Nov 1 Nick and I locked hands and barreled down to attempt to earn an additional $4000 to eliminate Lending tree by the end of the year. A mighty perhaps impossible goal around the holidays. I picked up as many overtime hours as I could and Nick filled in all the gaps at home. At times the fatigue and pressure felt unbearable and brought me to tears. But I knew what I was working towards.
I’m proud to say we feel lighter, proud, and ready to face the world. We are also changed. We no longer crave dining out, extravagant purchases or things we don’t need (we really don’t need much in fact). We have zero races on the calendar- a “must do” we used to cling to but have realized living a life free of debt is more important than big finish lines. We still have work to do, and these months and years as a new financial advisor will challenge us in new ways for certain. I’ll take a few weeks off from overtime and then begin chipping away at the next big debt. The tools you gave us have truly taken root in our hearts. I never thought we could do it. But I know you did. Thank you.
No, Nick and Angie, THANK YOU! You’re the heroes of the story, and I’m just the humble guide. Your hard work and discipline totally paid off!
If you’re reading this and feel like your big dreams could be just around the corner, I’d love to hear from you! Tell me what you want to accomplish, and I promise I’ll do my best to get you there.
