Totally Worth Celebrating!!
As you may have heard, it is my birthday! I don’t know about you, but I celebrate my birthday BIG! It has not always been like this. It was not until my 40th birthday that I had a shift in my perspective. That year I decided that I was going to celebrate my birthday in a BIG way! I decided to dedicate time to spend with myself.
Often we get so tied up with the ins and outs of everyday life. The kids need to do their homework. Or this project at work is due. And don’t forget about going grocery shopping, cleaning, or cooking dinner. The list is endless. When do we ever make time to pour into ourselves? How do we continue to give if we ourselves don’t have what we need? These were the thoughts that ran through my mind on my 40th birthday. This is when I decided to make a change.
For the first time in my whole entire life I flew solo at the movie theater. And it was great! Most people will think this is absolutely crazy, but it was so liberating. I was able to truly enjoy spending time with myself. The best part was that no one interrupted me! You know what I am talking about. Mom, can I have some popcorn. Honey, what just happened? Now don’t get me wrong I love my family, but it is nice to have a day where I am able to focus on myself. Oh and did I mention that my day is usually FREE!
How you may ask? Well many places reward you with birthday coupons. I make it my mission to find as many as I can and keep all of my FREE goodies in a Birthday folder. Now I know what you are thinking. How does this look with COVID-19? I know it is a crazy time, but this time more than ever we need to take time for ourselves!
I’ll go to Barre Class for a morning workout, enjoy a free lunch at my favorite spot, cash in my $10 off at various boutiques, and this year I’ll mask up to get a pedicure for the 1st time in 6 months! I’m excited about pampering myself just a bit and relaxing in my backyard with my family for dinner. I’m so excited that my daughter is baking me a cake… special order in a flavor I’ve never tried: Pistachio with cream cheese frosting. I’ll spend less than $20 and have a wonderful time by myself most of the day. It doesn’t have to take much to celebrate YOU. I firmly believe that and frequently encourage my clients to enjoy their special moments as well.
It is possible to budget, save, pay down debt, AND enjoy the journey. I hope you make room in your budget and life for this vital self care. We all need it right now! :)
To celebrate my birthday together, here is a gift for you!
