Graduating debt-free!

For 16 years I’ve been coaching individuals and families on their finances. It is a thrill to see my clients win with money by crushing debt, mastering a budget, and living life on their terms. Most of my clients are in their 40s and 50s. Therefore, they have some life experience and have tripped over themselves financially. That just means “they’ve seen some things!” :) I have too and that is why this work is so important to me.

In recent years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with young people in different organizations who are approaching college or in college already. The programs they participate in are committed to financial literacy and awareness so these students can graduate debt-free. Most of my clients would tell you they wish a program like this was available to them at that age.

According to Student Loan Hero, 69% of college students took out student loans, and they graduated with an average debt of $29,900, including both private and federal debt. Meanwhile, 14% of their parents took out an average of $37,200 in federal parent PLUS loans. The payment on that amount of student loans could amount to $330 per month.

Not only do we need to teach our young people how to manage money, but we also need to give them the opportunity to complete a degree without worrying about how to pay for it all.

In addition to having to figure out how to begin a career, 63% of young people ages 18-34 are stressed about money according to Opp U. (resource link)

Through financial literacy, we can decrease this number! Here is an example of how giving the financial tools can impact our young adults:

"I learned a lot about finances and budgeting, things that I will definitely take with me throughout college and after graduation. I really appreciate meeting with Erika because I learned things about my own spending habits that I hadn’t realized before." - SAMVID Young Leader

Tailor-Made Budgets is determined to make an impact not only on those already facing debt but also on those who have not entered the trap of student loans or other debt. Let's help give our young adults the tools to succeed.
