Let's Celebrate The Holidays

With the year we have had, I wanted to find a way to celebrate together in our own community. For the first time ever, I am hosting a Virtual Holiday Party! No this is not a way for me to sell you something or talk budgets, but a way to just celebrate this joyful time. All are invited no matter if you are a client or not. There are a few conditions for attendance however… Everyone must bring a drink, wear some holiday attire, and engage your competitive spirit.  Now if y’all know me, I love to party! It’s going to be fun and I can’t wait to see you there! Plus you just might win a prize!

Speaking of the holidays let’s address the elephant in the room…the holidays just don’t feel the same. Celebrating the birth of Jesus on Christmas has always been an exciting and reverent time in my home.  Typically we’d host friends and family or take a vacation.  We definitely cook a huge meal and bake our traditional 7-up cake no matter where we were.  This year though it looks a little different. We are keeping things simple and safe by celebrating just among the 4 of us so that we may enjoy more seasons in the future with extended family and friends. With that being said I have decided to look at this as an opportunity to create new traditions. Whether it may be a modified version of an existing tradition or a completely new one to start. Here are a few new traditions we are continuing/adopting this year:

Christmas Cards

EVERY SINGLE YEAR since my husband and I got married 22 years ago we have sent photo Christmas cards or a Christmas letter.  This is definitely a tradition that we are continuing. As a matter of fact, cards were just mailed earlier this week!

Virtual Candlelight Service

Here in Indy, my community at church gathers together for a candlelight service. Since we are unable to do this in person safely, we are going to watch Christmas service virtually and have our own candles. I plan on still dressing for the occasion and celebrating even though it may not be in person.

Baking or Cooking Together

Do you bake or cook something special for the holidays? If you were to ask my husband, Christmas would not be Christmas if I did not make my famous 7-Up cake! This tradition started when we first got married, and it still continues to this day. I have to admit, my mom makes it best and she is the reason he loves it so much!  And the funny thing is I will only make this specific cake only on Christmas so everyone looks forward to this annual treat.

Giving to Others

This is a big one. We have worked so hard to get out of debt so we can “Live and Give like no one else!”* Each year we make it our priority to give to someone else in some type of way. We clean our closets for donations, increase our giving at church for mission opportunities, and adopt a family in need.  This brings me so much joy, and everyone can use that this year!

Check on Your Loved Ones

Instead of our normal family dinner, we are sending our parents food for the holidays. This way it saves them from cooking, and it shows them that we are thinking of them.  We are also having several different zoom holiday calls to celebrate with loved ones that we can’t be with during this season.

Other New Traditions You May Consider:

  • Play Games

  • Reminisce over and share Old Family Photos

  • Host a virtual Gift Opening Party

  • Cook a Special Meal or holiday treat

  • Leave gifts on friends’ doorsteps

  • Take on a new holiday craft project

  • Listen to your favorite holiday songs

  • Read Christmas stories and books

No matter how you decide to spend your holidays, make it special and meaningful.  I’m sure we can all agree that 2020 will not soon be forgotten.  Stay positive, test negative :) and let’s finish 2020 out with a BANG!
